Literacy Coalition

The Literacy Coalition is a not-for-profit organization committed to ensuring that every resident of Palm Beach County, Florida is able to read. Literacy Coalition offers countywide programs from Jupiter to Boca Raton to Belle Glade providing literacy skills to children, adults, and families.

2023-2024 United Way Funded Programs

Building Better Readers recruits, trains, places and supports 150 to 250 volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring in reading comprehension. Sessions take place in the classroom,  twice a week, for 30 minutes each, resulting in a minimum of 1 hour a week after school tutoring.

Literacy Coalition’s family literacy programs, Glades Family Education and Village Readers, provide instruction for preschool-aged children to build strong school readiness skills, and for elementary-aged children to develop literacy skills. Children receive the help they need to succeed academically while parents develop their own language and literacy skills to support their children.

The Literacy AmeriCorps program recruits, trains and supervises up to 40 members who each contribute 1,700 hours of service in tutoring, mentoring and participation in meaningful community service projects. Members serve at partner agencies as reading tutors, mentors, graduation coaches and college readiness coaches.
