The mission of The Glades Initiative is to improve the coordination and effectiveness of the health and human service delivery system in the Glades area of Palm Beach County. The Glades Initiative is the local source selected to identify and coordinate the health and human service needs of the community, as well as develop and encourage collaborative relationships to collectively address the community's needs.

2025-2026 United Way Funded Programs

The Glades Food Security program improves access to healthy, affordable food and other vital services for Glades residents. Weekly food distribution averages 935 residents in 325 households. Clients receive help applying for SNAP/Medicaid benefits, and emergency rent/utility assistance. Nutrition Education teaches clients how to eat healthy on a budget. The Glades Initiative Food Bank supports 8 partner agencies with supplemental food.

Glades Initiative navigators provide thousands of uninsured and underserved residents in the Glades area with information about health coverage and other services options, assist with online (and paper) applications for various health and human services, including federal, state and county benefits such as Medicaid/Medicare, SNAP (Food Stamps), healthcare and emergency assistance. Navigators are equipped with the skills to help the most vulnerable residents with translation, interpretation, and connecting them to services, especially services that require online applications.
