ALEXIS de TOCQUEVILLE SOCIETY
OF THE TOWN OF PALM BEACH UNITED WAY
The National Alexis de Tocqueville Society is named for the French historian and author who came to America in 1831 and praised Americans for voluntarily assisting their neighbors in times of need. The desire to recognize individuals who exemplify this spirit of volunteerism for the common good prompted United Way of America to create the National Alexis de Tocqueville Society in 1972 and to name it after the young French aristocrat.
In 1989, the Town of Palm Beach United Way established the local chapter of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society for individuals contributing $10,000 or more a year to the campaign. Last year, 125 members of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society contributed $3,638,839 to the Town of Palm Beach United Way.
Society members are individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty and community service. Their commitment stretches far beyond the financial contribution. They are compassionate community leaders who recognize the importance of building a strong community today and preparing for tomorrow, for their family, co-workers, neighbors, and employees.
