PALM BEACH, Fla., – The Town of Palm Beach United Way announced the results of its 2008-2009 fundraising campaign today. The total raised is $4,134,789, 12% under the amount that was raised in the 2007-2008 campaign.
According to Board of Trustees Chairman, Danielle Hickox Moore, the campaign is a remarkable success based on a very tough economic climate. “Thanks to the generosity of the people in this community and the hard work of the campaign leadership and volunteers, we maintained most of our funding base this year.”
The Town of Palm Beach United Way’s approach is to maintain an effective safety net of services in our community through an allocations process among qualified, historic affiliated agencies based on measurable outcomes, services to the community and relative need in the community. The distribution of campaign funds is made by 79 local volunteers, who reviewed detailed program and financial information and provided funding recommendations for 100 programs from 48 affiliated agencies. Because there was less money available for the volunteers to allocate, most affiliated agencies will see a decrease in their total Town of Palm Beach United Way support. According to Allocation Committee Chairman, Trip Moore, “These resources will make a real difference in people’s lives, and create impact and change in individual and family lives in Palm Beach County. Our continued funding at our affiliated agencies will enable them to continue to do their good work.”
Recognition of dedicated service was acknowledged to more than 100 volunteers working on campaign and allocations, and to the following campaign leadership:
Gail Coniglio, General Campaign Chairman
Lee Gordon, Business and Professional Campaign Chairman
Beverly Savin, Treasure Chest South Campaign Chairman
Lynn Surovek, Treasure Chest North Campaign Chairman
Sarah Gewirz and Betsy Turner, Red Feather Campaign Co-Chairmen Michele Kessler and Lesly Smith, Alexis de Tocqueville Society Co-Chairmen
